Why obtaining a register for your particular product is important?

Because Costa Rican authorities watch over the population’s health, they require a detailed analysis of the product before granting the sanitary register for the product. Without a license granted by the Ministry of Health, no product whatsoever can be put on the local market.

Why is registering your trademark important?

In Costa Rica, the rights over industrial or intellectual property are protected under the Constitution which in its 47th article states the following: “ Any author, inventor, producer or dealer will temporarily enjoy exclusive property of his or her work, invention, trademark, or commercial name according to the law”

Registering your trademark before the Registro de la Propiedad Intelectual , adjoined to the National Records, protects your rights and interests, as well as extend this protection against unfair competition which may lead to usurpation by another party.
